As summer comes to an end, our schools are now back in session, offering our students a new season full of opportunity and hope.
We’ve been busy at FIELD the past few months planning the coming year and we have a lot of good news to share.
Our classroom capacity is expanding. Because transportation is such a barrier to our students being able to attend our classes, we will soon be setting up transportation assistance to shuttle students to and from our campuses.
Our goal is to continue to build out schools to continue to grow our programs. In the next year we want to triple our FIELD student enrollment to 3,000. To accomplish our goals, in addition to our investments in transportation to our CTE centers, we are also helping overcome another significant obstacle to student success – childcare. That’s why we’ll be opening five new childcare facilities next spring and have plans to add good nutrition to the menu.
In more good news, we’ve received several new grants – a $150,000 healthy meals nutritional grant and a $100,000 test kitchen grant, so we can better feed our students and offer CTE classes on food prep.
We’re proud to announce that we have three new contracts for our ESL program: Victor Valley Community College, Bakersfield Community College and Moorpark Community College. We’re also working on a dual enrollment program with our community colleges that will combine our career training and English learning programs by the spring of 2024.
To that end, I want to welcome our new executive director for our statewide adult charter high school, Roxanna Villasenor, who started with us over the summer. Please wish her a hearty welcome to the FIELD community. We will be highlighting her in our next edition of the newsletter.
Please also extend a welcome to our new Human Resource Director Carolina Martinez. We are growing and expanding and want to welcome the professional staff who will help make it happen.
Hispanic Heritage Month Honor
I’m also pleased to announce I am being honored, on behalf of FIELD, with the 2023 Hispanic Hero Award from Spanish Radio Group of Bakersfield during this year’s Hispanic Heritage month, Sept. 15- Oct. 15.
I am pleased to accept this recognition on behalf of the terrific FIELD board of directors, staff and management team who work so diligently to make a difference each and every day. This award will help us in our efforts to promote FIELD’s message and get out the word about all the lives we are changing for the better.
Si, Se Puede!
