The Farmworkers Institute of Education & Leadership Development (FIELD) is pleased to highlight their ongoing progress – and the dozens of lives they are transforming along the way — on the $390,000 rehabilitation project at the Cesar Chavez National Monument. The project is funded by its partners in the U.S. National Park Service as part of the Great American Outdoors Act.
The project serves many of the Central CA region’s troubled youth who find healing and purpose in working and living in nature and working on this renovation project at Cesar Chavez’s headquarters. FIELD provides the structure and educational framework for many of these abandoned young adults. “Many of our corpsmembers were homeless, some even living in their cars with children or come out of the foster care system. Some don’t speak any English. They learn life and job skills in the program,” noted FIELD Corps director avid Weaver.
The renovation project at La Paz is part of the four-year-old Great American Outdoors Act, which is providing more than $5 billion to address critical infrastructure needs at national parks around the country. The FIELD conservation corp is leading the effort at the Chavez National Monument.
